Pro Gay Rights Rally
So yesterday I partook in the march from the Civic Center to Dolores park in protest of Proposition 8 passing. It was my first time being a part of a protest and let me tell you, the energy in the air was amazing. There was a superb turnout of easily 1,000+ people, all taking to the streets chanting and holding signs in order to protect civil liberties. I went with Krista and a few of her friends from Park (it’s another dorm building next to ours), so the walk felt like nothing at all even though it was really over 4 miles. The amount of supporters along the parade route was again, nothing short of great. People honked, waved, clapped, and even played musical instruments for us. When I got back to my dorm, Matt and Albert were watching “Fight Club” on tv. They noticed that I had several no on prop 8 paraphernalia and Matt (Who like Albert is a conservative and voted yes) asked what I expected to happen. I told him, “Nothing”. Honestly rallies are great and all, but in order to really get anything done you have to take to the courts not the streets for anything to be done. I hope one of the lawsuits against the prop gains some ground and defeats it. Even if it wasn’t Adam and Steve in the beginning, why should they have to believe the same thing as you?
